Examples

  • Wikipedia, and other enciclopedias are generic compilations, intended to be read by humans
  • CyC is a knowledge base intended to be used by AI applications

Observations

A knowledge compilation is a probable target for annotations. These annotations bring additional information. A knowledge compilation could be built of annotations over topics/entries. It would be a more fine-grained elaboration (as the basic element would not be a compilation entry, but a single concept over that topic/entry).

  • That would allow diferential reviewing and browsing (check not the whole entry, but the new/modified annotations).

A knowledge compilation is intended to gather more knowledge about each topic than the average reader might have

  • However It won't be feasible on most cases to gather ALL the information on a topic
    • Because there is a tradeoff with maturity, privacy, etc. I can't just write down whatever comes to my mind and expect it to be worth reading
    • Because annoting trivial facts costs time that is more productive elsewhere
